So it depends on the size of the team, if the team is very large then they are looking for somebody strong in at least 2 events, if the team is smaller then they may take anybody who can possibly score in 1 event or contribute to a B relay. A swimmer can score in 2 individual events and 2 relays. I don't know how any site does the conversion calculations but it seems to me conversions just average between swimmers around the same time, so a swimmer with better turns and underwaters will be faster at short course and swimmer with faster on top of water speed and endurance will be faster at long course. Based on her time, she just qualified for varsity as an incoming 9th grader. My daughter had a long course meter time at a meet about three weeks ago and I converted it on a web page to short course yards.
